Father, Teacher, Advocate

My family is my joy and my first priority. I am the father of two energetic children who light up my world every day. My wife and I are raising them as part of the Oceanside community to be compassionate individuals who give back. We met our first day on college campus. We became close friends and eventually married. We moved to Oceanside the day we graduated and this has been our home ever since. We chose Oceanside as our forever home and are committed to serving our community.

Thirteen years ago I became a teacher because I believe knowledge has the power to change lives and transform communities. I then became a special education teacher because I believe all children should have access to high quality education.

In 2018 I ran for and was elected to the Oceanside Unified School Board. As a member of the Board I’ve helped balance a $200-million+ dollar budget, advanced an innovative community schools program, added counselors to elementary schools and expanded bi-lingual education. When the pandemic threatened the safety of our community, we kept our children safe, fed and learning until they could return to campus. I also ensured the rebuild of Jefferson Middle School and San Luis Rey/Pablo Tac Elementary.

In Oceanside I have worked and volunteered with people from all corners of public service. As chair of the Committee to End the School to Prison Pipeline in the North San Diego County NAACP, I lead work with education institutions to remove barriers to the success of thousands of children in North County. I also serve the community as a member of the Oceanside Justice Coalition which is a community led network mobilized to strategically counteract systemic racism. I volunteer to support organizations serving our communities such as Humanity Showers, Community Roots Farms, the Surfrider Foundation, Moms Demand Action and many others working for positive change. I believe doing the work on the ground with our neighbors is how we can build a better Oceanside for everyone.
